Proposed Walkway RenderingThe Brentwood Borough Council in conjunction with the Brentwood Park Initiative are moving forward with plans to renovate the Borough's Stadium, Park, Pool, Civic Center and surrounding park area. J.T. Sauers & Associates, LLC and Zell Engineers, Inc. were awarded the nearly $40,000 planning project to prepare the Feasibility Study and Master Site Plan. This funding was provided through a grant obtained by Sen. Fontana through the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. J. T. Sauers & Associates is a landscape architecture and engineering firm specializing in sports architecture, site design, and parks & recreation. Zell Engineers, is a firm specializing in surveying, testing, and utilities.

The Brentwood Park Initiative (BPI) group has also been moving forward. Identified as the Community Steering Committee for this project, the group continues to make strides in raising the much needed funds that will be a necessity for the implementation of this multimillion dollar project. o date the BPI, a 501c3 non-profit corporation, has raised over $200,000.00 through fundraising and contributions. In October of 2010 they received good news that they received a DCNR (Department of Conservation and Natural Resources) matching grant of $438,000.00. In September of 2011 they were awarded a $200,000.00 CITF grant. The CITF grant along with monies already raised through fundraising and contributions will be used to match the DCNR grant. With the BPI and Brentwood Boro working together there is enough money to start Phase I. Now fundraising efforts begin for Phase II, football field and track.

During the March 12th regular meeting of the BPI, representatives from J.T. Sauers presented a PowerPoint presentation that included various preliminary ideas and options they have been working on. The primary goal of the workshop meeting was to get feedback/input from the group on these various alternatives and options. In summary, some outcomes of this workshop meeting regarding the main components of the study/plan were the following:

  • Include a 400 meter track around the football field and relocate the affected two (2) baseball fields somewhere else in the park.
  • A possible new location for the existing basketball/tennis courts was proposed.
  • A possible new location for the proposed Deck Hockey Rink.
  • Investigate passive recreation areas (more pavilions) along with a life walking trail
  • Utilize synthetic turf on the football field.

These were only some ideas that were discussed as part of the "brainstorming" exercise. The group is comprised of members of the Brentwood Borough Council, School Board, coaches, parents, and concerned citizens. The BPI is in the process of obtaining official non-profit status as they continue to work towards their application for 501c3 status. The BPI continues to meet regularly on the second Thursday of each month from 7pm - 8pm at the Brentwood Borough Community Room located downstairs of the Library. These meetings are open to the public and has been gaining more attendance and participation each month.
